What is Remedial Massage?

Remedial massage is a therapeutic approach that targets the muscles, tendons and connective tissues of the body to address pain, tightness and dysfunction. Unlike a relaxation massage, remedial massage is purposeful and assessment-based your therapist will identify what's contributing to your symptoms and treat accordingly.

It works well as a standalone treatment, or alongside physiotherapy and exercise physiology for a more comprehensive approach to recovery and pain management.

New to remedial massage? Here is how it works

  • Your first appointment begins with a brief assessment of your symptoms, history and goals. Your therapist will ask about any injuries, areas of tension, medical history and what you're hoping to get out of treatment. This ensures every session is targeted and appropriate for your body. The initial consultation is 60min in duration where you typically use the first 15minutes for the consultation and the remaining 45minutes for massage.

  • Your therapist will use a range of remedial techniques including deep tissue work, trigger point therapy, myofascial release and stretching focused on the areas that need it most. Treatment is adapted to your comfort level and adjusted as your body responds.

  • At the end of your session your therapist will give you practical aftercare advice including stretches, postural tips or activity modifications to help you get the most out of your treatment between appointments and may refer you onto other practitioners.

  • For ongoing conditions or regular maintenance, your therapist will track your progress across sessions and adjust the treatment focus as your body improves. Whether you're coming in weekly for an acute issue or monthly for general upkeep, your sessions are always tailored to where you're at right now.
